Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712 – 1778) was a thinker whose ideas transformed the world and shaped history. His writings influenced leaders of the French Revolution and the Romantic Movement, and ushered in the end of the Age of Enlightenment and its rigid rationality. A devoted champion of liberty, Rousseau pretty much shaped our modern understanding of the term. Less known is that Rousseau had a spanking fetish, and went to extremes to try and satisfy it.
Rousseau Revolutionized the World

Swiss philosopher, writer, and composer Jean-Jacques Rouseau championed reforms that revolutionized not only politics, but also popular tastes in the arts, music, an admiration for the beauty of nature, and various other aspects of everyday life. The man was a dreamer who inspired others to dream about a better world. More importantly, he inspired people to act, and transform those dreams into reality. Sometimes, the dreams turned nightmarish, as with the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. That, unfortunately, had been inspired in the main by Rousseau’s thoughts. Generally speaking, however, the world is a better place because of Rousseau.
Rousseau’s dreamer nature was a case of the apple not falling far from the tree. His father had also been, by the standards of his day, a dreamer who believed that his city of birth, Geneva, was a glorious republic akin to ancient Sparta and Rome. Rousseau’s father also had a glorious image of himself – a self-perception that was inherited by his son. Rousseau Sr. was a watchmaker who married above his modest station. Those around him thought the match went to his head. Among other things, it convinced him that he was entitled to upper class pretensions, and that got him in trouble.
Discovering a Love of Getting Spanked

Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s father went about with a sword, which he was not legally entitled to carry. He ended up facing criminal charges when he brandished it. To evade prison, he fled Geneva. The flight of Rousseau Sr. set in motion a train of events that ended with Jean-Jacques’ transformation into a spanking fetishist. With his father a fugitive, Jean-Jacques was sent at age eight to live with a Calvinist minister named Lambercier, and his daughter. Mademoiselle Lambercier treated young Rousseau as if he was her son.
She disciplined the young Rousseau as a mother would have in those days, and spanked him when he misbehaved. However, the young Rousseau discovered that he liked it when he was spanked. Years later, he wrote: “I had found in the pain, even in the disgrace, a mixture of sensuality which had left me less afraid than desirous of experiencing it again from the same hand. No doubt some precocious sexual instinct was mingled with this feeling, for the same chastisement inflicted by her brother would not have seemed to me at all pleasant”.
Rousseau Haunted Dark Alleys to Bare His Derriere to Female Passersby

Rousseau deliberately acted up in order to get spanked. Eventually, Mademoiselle Lambercier finally gave up and ceased her efforts to discipline him. By then, however, Rousseau had become a spank-aholic – a fetish that lasted for the rest of his life. As he put it: “Who would believe this childish discipline, received at eight years old, from the hands of a woman of thirty, should influence my propensities, my desires, my passions, for the rest of my life, and that in quite a contrary sense from what might naturally have been expected?”
When he grew up, Jean-Jacques Rousseau desperately wanted to get spanked, but he was shy around the opposite sex and was unable to gather the courage to ask a woman to spank him. The repressed desire got so bad, that he began to haunt dark alleys, where he exposed his bare behind to passing women. He never got his butt spanked like he wanted, but on at least one occasion Rousseau almost got his butt kicked by an angry crowd. Some girls who saw his bare behind screamed, a crowd gathered, and Rousseau was chased in the night and cornered. He pretended to be insane – or, considering that he habitually bared his derriere to women in dark alleys, just how much pretense was going on? – and thus managed to avoid getting beaten to a pulp by the crowd.
